It is bordered by Mali in the north; Niger in the east; Benin in the southeast;
Togo and Ghana in the south; and the Ivory Coast in the southwest.
Ouagadougou is the capital and largest city.
Bobo-Dioulasso is the second largest.
The population is about 15 million.

The country was originally called Upper Volta.
It was called that because it is situated on the upper reaches of the Volta River.
The river's three tributaries are the Black Volta, White Volta and Red Volta
